While Coyotes Sing in the Background

“The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself, too.”
― Samuel Butler
It’s not politically correct,
But today I realized that having a dog
Allows for some of the same joys
As having a retarded child,
With none of the angst.
Old chocolate Lab.
Urged by owners to jump in back of hatchback.
“Good girl, Brandy!”
Excited dog jumps over kids into front seat.
Mud everywhere, by the sounds of it.
Yelled at.
Bounds back to the hatch
 And poops.
I laughed out loud.
Their car went from elation to grossness in seconds.
And then we all ended up laughing, that was a week ago.
Today… Today I learned that dogs are there to teach us about growing old.
“Nothing like a good ol’ dog”, is what I said.
And the owner said, “I have to help him into the car.”
“Nothing like a good ol dog”, I said, fearing the owner did not hear me.
“He’s my friend.”, the owner said.
Low slouching really yellow-red Lab, a dog maybe called Sandy, but red.
I don’ t know what the lesson was but it made an impression.
Another lesson learned?
Pugs would make terrible soldiers!
And, in conclusion…dogs  may, or may not be, considerate.
